Torniamo nel nord Europa, e più precisamente in quel di Gotemborg e andiamo a incontrare Stefan, Gabriel e gli altri ragazzi dei City Saints
RTC) How and when was the band born and the members, tell us the history of band
STEFAN: City Saints was formed in 2012 in Gothenburg, Sweden by Stefan Johansson (vocals/harmonica), Gabriel Aadland (guitar), Carl Linnaeus (bass guitar) and Magnus Jonsson (drums). Magnus quit the band after our second album, Blue Collar Sons. Our “new” drummer, Robbin Larsson joined in 2016.
RTC) How can we call your style of playing? which are your musical influences?
STEFAN: City Saints are influenced by the early punk and pub-bands like Dr Feelgood, Slade, Sex Pistols, Cock Sparrer and Sham 69. But also 70’s rock bands like Status Quo, Motörhead and AC/DC. We call ourselves Punk & Roll.
RTC) What are your lyrics about? what do you stand for?
GABRIEL: My lyrics can be about my hometown Gothenburg, having a good time, underdogs, injustice for instance. It varies. Sometimes deep and sometimes more lighthearted. I stand for free thinking, and animal rights
STEFAN: Our lyrics are mostly about having fun like drinking beer. But sometimes more serious topics like mental illness or the state of our country. I am left wing, but I choose not to talk about politics
RTC) What's your favourite beer or alcoholic drink?
STEFAN: I prefer a good stout, but will drink everything you serve me
GABRIEL: A beer is always my preferred drink, especially when it’s brewed in my hometown. We got so many great brewers in Gothenburg.
RTC) Speak about the Oi! Skinhea and Punk scene in your Area and Country
STEFAN: Lots of great bands, especially in Gothenburg. We don’t see ourselves as a skinhead-band, so I am too lazy to discovering “new” Oi! Bands. But there are some very good punk bands like The Baboon Show, Troublemakers, Gatans Lag, The Sensitives, Hyrda Knektar and Trubbel.
RTC) Can you mention the most important gigs you did?
GABRIEL: The most important gig for me must be the first time we were playing Rebellion festival in Blackpool. We had a an early stage-time, I think it was 13:15, and it seemed quiet in front of the stage when we were preparing ourselves backstage. But when we entered the scene the place was packed. That was first time I realized that we actually had a solid fan base outside Sweden.
RTC) Do you suggest us other bands in your country ?
STEFAN: We have lots of great music coming from Sweden, especially hard rock and metal. Bands like Halo Effect, Bombus, Satan takes a Holiday, Viagra Boys, The Hives and Sator.
GABRIEL: Besides the obvious ones like The Hives for instance we have cool bands such as The Dahmers, Trubbel, The Exorcist GBG and of course our other bands Bastardes, Outsiders and Satanic Overdrive.
RTC) How much works (CD,LP Etc.) have you released ?
STEFAN: We will release our 6th album “Explosiv!” on February 28th. This will be our last Swedish album, then our plan is to record a live album and then one more English album.
RTC) Do you go to Stadium ? is yes, which team you support ?
STEFAN: We are not into sports!
RTC) Would you like to play in Italy? do you know italian Oi! and Punk scene ?
STEFAN: Would be great to play in Italy. I simply love Italy and have been on vacation in your beautiful country many, many times. Love the food, love the people.
Los Fastidios are good friend of our and we played with them many times. I don’t know that many Italian bands, but we played with Klasse Kriminale in Berlin a few years ago. Great band.
RTC) So, the interview is Over, say something to ?
STEFAN: Grazie! Hopefully we will pay in Italy some day.
