Un nostro collaboratore ci ha fornito questa intervista degli inglesi Citizen keyne, e quindi avremo modo di conoscerli più nel dettaglio nelle prossime righe... Let's Go

RTC) History Of the Band

CTK) My self and Darren were coming home drunk form a well known Punk festival about 18 years ago, we had seen some great bands and some really shit ones and I decided we could do better than some of them so we advertised for a drummer and a guitarist (at the time Darren was doing to play bass) but lets just say he couldn’t! We started to play at an open mic night and then we took it one step further. We were lucky enough to recruit Floyd to play guitar after the original guy left as his girlfriend didn’t like him having a life of his own. Floyd has since taken up drum duties after the last one left as his commitment was questionable and we have Ryan on Bass who took over from the previous guy as he was simply not fitting it. Paul is the lasts guitarist who took over from Floyd as drummers n this scene are notoriously hard to find, Daz is our punk Bez without the maracas. In my opinion this is the best and most solid line we have ever had, and we are enjoying ourselves again. I am just the singer and lyric writer as Paul likes to remind me!!!

RTC) What Does Citizen Keyne and why did you choose this name ?

CTK) At the time all the members in the band lived in Milton Keynes (  the current line up is more spread out across the Country) we used to get a local newspaper called the Citizen, given that one of my favourite films is Citizen Kane it seemed like a good play on word as we were brought together from a newspaper advert in the Citizen and we all lived on Milton Keynes, so Citizen Keyne was an obvious choice.

RTC) What are your songs about ?

CTK) We sing about real life things like beers, football, mates and out Country the good things and the bad things. I don’t really think we have a particular topic that we focus on but is something is pissing us off then it gets the CK treatment. Let’s face it the current state of the World gives us plenty to get angry about, but we also have good times that we also write about. The things we like and the things we don’t like all get mentioned and we never have and never will shy away from anything.

RTC) What are your musical influences ?

CTK) It thinks it’s fair to say we are influenced by a lot of the original punk and oi bands like UK Subs, Pistols, Toy Dolls, The Damned, SLF, The Business, 4 Skins, individually we all have similar tastes but we also like to think we put our own sound on the songs, if we wanted to sound like another band we could make more money playing the tribute/cover bands scene.

How many works have to released?

To date we have released 4 full length albums

Ungreat Britain

Stand Proud

Unity

White Collar Hooligan

We have also appeared on many compilation albums, and we did also release a single called Police State which was a limited edition on cd that looked like a vinyl record.

RTC) Can you explain what the real oi scene means and what does it mean for you standing for it ?

CTK) Well, the term “real oi” is a pretty recent thing and what is actually means is hard to say, it will mean different things to different people if you ask them. To me it’s the bands who have stuck the original ethics of Oi music, i.e. say what you want and play with whoever you want to play with, sadly there are a great number who will refuse to play with certain bands because of what they have been told or what they read on the internet usually said by people who don’t knows the bands or their songs or the people in the band just so they can get “acceptance” from people who actually don’t give a shit about them.

RTC) How is the British Scene nowadays and what could be done to make it better?

CTK) Its still hanging on in there and is better for some than it is for others. That is not going to change until bands stop this “won’t play with certain bands” mentality and people start to make the scene what its supposed to be about and that is music and having a laugh. We can live in hope but don’t hold your breath.

RTC) Plans ahead

CTK) Carry on doing what we do until people don’t want t see it anymore, there is a the option of a 5th album and that’s something we are discussing as a band so watch this space.

RTC) Favourite alcoholic drink?

CTK) Easy, I can speak for the whole band when I say LAGER!

RTC) Do you or did you go watch football and which team do you support ?

CTK) I was a regular home and away follower of my team Chelsea until family came along and it became so expensive, I still get to a few games where I can but the atmosphere has gone from the good old days.

RTC) Final words

CTK) Thank you to everyone who has supported the band over the years and come to our gigs and the handful of promoters who will give us a gig.

CITIZEN KEYNE SHOUTING THE TRUTH LOUDER THAN YOU SHOUT YOUR LIES

Ringraziamo Mr. D. per averci fornito questa intervista, io personalmente non li conoscevo fino a oggi, ma staremo a vedere cosa ci offriranno in futuro questi "baldi giovani" inglesi.

Cheers & Beers
