In the name of Old-School Oi!

righttochoosewebzi

E ogni volta che andiamo al nord mi accorgo di quanto l'Oi! Made in Scandinavia mi piace sempre di più. Ora insieme agli amici Jussi e Kimi dei Laki & Järjestys andiamo a farci questa bella chiacchierata...

RTC) How and when was the band born and the members, tell us the history of band

Jussi) Laki & Järjestys was founded in January 2020, but the band roots go back like 15 years. We had a project band back then, playing Oi! with a lineup very similar to the original lineup of Laki & Järjestys.

Two songs from our first EP, idiootit and Reilua Peliä are from those days, but the lyrics

were updated later.

So, how did the idea for the band come about? I was at Tavastia, the legendary rock club in

Helsinki, when the idea hit me. I went there to see the band Ne Luumäet. Ne Luumäet was a

Ramones-style punk band, one of the most famous Finnish bands in the late 80s and early 90s.

I grew up listening to bands like Ne Luumäet. Although they broke up in the mid 90s, they have played occasional gigs since. This particular gig was supposed to be their final show, and it was sold out at Tavastia. While standing in the crowd and hearing them play their song Laki& järjestys”, I turned to my friends and said, "Hey, this would make a great name for an Oi! band, right?" My friends agreed. A couple of days later, I asked Pasi, Pietu, and Topi if they would join the band. They all said yes, and our first idea was to play music in the style of old-school Oi! bands like Blitz and other British Oi! bands.

Nowadays our line-up is Pietu (bass), Jussi (vocals), Santtu (guitar) and Kimi (drums).

RTC) How can we call your style of playing? which are your musical influences?

Kimi) Mixture of Oi! and traditional Finnish Punk Rock from the 70s and 80s. Oi! Streetpunk-

Influences: Cock Sparrer, Last Resort, Business etc. Other influences (Finnish Rock and Punk):

Karanteeni, Ratsia, Pelle Miljoona, Problems?, Klamydia, Eppu Normaali, Popeda, Yö, Unborn SF etc.

Jussi) I already mentioned Blitz, so Kimi’s list is pretty solid. Of course, the Finnish bands he

mentioned might not necessarily be the most important influences for the rest of us. That said,

Kimi is a huge music enthusiast and absolutely loves old Finnish rock!

But hey, there’s still one important Finnish band missing—L.A.M.F. They’re a brilliant punk band that was founded about 35 years ago. Musically, a bit different from us, but if you dig

into their lyrics, you’ll quickly notice a similar way of thinking. Their songs always carry a serious message, and the lyrics are written in a provocative style.

I also have to tell a good story about our song ‘Huomisen kadut’. Ipe, the frontman of L.A.M.F.,

Wrote Huomisen kadut around 1996. It was originally meant to be released on L.A.M.F.’s

fourth album, which, unfortunately, never saw the light of day. The song remained in the

shadows for years, but a couple of years ago, Ipe asked us to play and release it. Words can’t

express how much this means to us. The song itself could be straight out of Orwell’s 1984

dystopia—or from the real world we’re living in today...

RTC) What are your lyrics about? what do you stand for?

Kimi) Lyrics are about everyday life and struggling of a working man living in Finland. We stand

for hard work, traditions and not giving up.

RTC) Whats your favourite beer or alcoholic drink?

Kimi: Kotimaista Olut and Koskenkorva Viina

Jussi: Perfect answer. Clarification for non-Finns: Kotimaista Olut is the cheapest lager beer here in Finland and Koskenkorva is our most iconic vodka.

RTC) Speak about the Oi! and Punk scene in your Area and Country

Kimi) Oi! scene is very small in Finland compared to other european countries. There are lots of punk bands and events in Finland but they are mostly hard core and 77-punk. For us it is quite

OK, because we like other punk styles too and it is easier to differ from others bands.

RTC) Can you mention the most important gigs you did?

Jussi) Hard to mention any certain gig. I could say that all our past shows have been important.

RTC) Do you suggest us other bands in your country ?

Jussi) We just listed so many great Finnish bands that they’re a perfect starting point for

exploring Finnish punk rock!

RTC) How much works (CD,LP Etc.) have you released ?

Jussi) We have released two EP’s and one full-length album. Our debut 7” EP “Kuka lystin kustantaa?” was sold-out pretty fast but you still might find it from some record stores or distros in the EU and USA.

RTC) Do you go to Stadium ? is yes, which team you support ?

Jussi) In Finland? Not really. I mostly just watch the Finland national team’s games. But I’m a supporter of HSV from Hamburg. I used to go and watch one game per season, but I haven’t been there since Covid.

RTC) Would you like to play in Italy

Jussi) We definitely want to play in Italy! Feel free to reach out and invite us to play!

RTC) So, the interview is Over, say something to ?

Jussi) Thank you so much for inviting us for an interview. We truly appreciate the gesture.

Hopefully, we’ll see you soon at a show in Italy!

Cheers & Beers
