Montreal Old School of Punk Oi!

RTC) How and when was the band born and the members, tell us the history of band

LGT) The band was born in 1998 in a small town one hour away from Montreal . We were 2 young punks with a drum machine at the time. Some musicians have joined us over time and our first drummer arrived in 2001. The band was a power trio until 2013 . We have been a four piece band since that time.

RTC) How can we call your style of playing? which are your musical influences?

LGT) It's a mix between Oi! and old school punk rock . I'm a big fan of old British & French Oi! I listen to some Scandinavian bands as well.

RTC) What are your lyrics about? What do you stand for?

LGT) Some of our lyrics are about personal experiences in life, history of the working class from our country , war stories , police brutality and violence on the street. I used to be very political during my twenties; we can hear it in our old songs. But now i'm 44 years old and i don't give a shit, there's too many assholes in every space of society. I stand for my family and my friends.

RTC) What's your favourite beer or alcoholic drink?

RTC) I love pilsner beer but i can't drink strong alcohol , i'm getting too fucking stupid!!!!!

RTC) Speak about the Oi! and Punk scene in your Area and Country..

RTC) Since 2016 ,i play in The Prowlers as well . Montreal is a great place where you can find great bands . We got the Oi! fest every year and a lot of people from everywhere are coming to see this festival . Canada is a big and beautiful country but it could be complicated to travel long distances between big cities because of our long winter.

RTC) Can you mention the most important gigs you did?

LGT) The first time we played in Mexico in 2010 was the craziest experience i had in my rock n' roll life. The first gig of that tour was at the multiforo Alicia in Mexico city. We arrived at the venue by taxi then we saw a bunch mexican skins looking at us with the light of their cell phone , i said to myself ...what the fuck is this ? they were filming us and then they came to us and they were taking pictures with us, we had a translator with us on that tour his name was Hugo he lost his voice after 2 gigs ...he was really too much busy hehehe , the craziest thing i saw that night was to see these mexicans getting super excited and singing our songs in french , i was like how the fuck is possible ?!? Back then, the internet was not strong like it is today but i learned on that tour that they were pyrating our music by copying cd's of La Gachette and they were selling it on el chopo .... a punkmarket in Mexico. We did 4 shows on that tour it was short but every night was awesome. I saw a lot of fighting on this trip too , i remember seing the side walk in front of the multiforo Alicia full of blood after we left to go back to the hotel. We went back there four times after that tour and i wish we could go back there one day.

RTC) Do you suggest us other bands in your country ?

LGT) The Enforcers from Calgary , i think one of their drummer is from Vancouver and one of their guitar player is from Winnipeg as well,  we play with them twice in Montreal . Great people and great band !! they are plenty other good bands in Canada but if you ask me to mention one in particular it would be these guys !!

RTC) How much works (CD,LP Etc.) have you released ?

LGT) We did 2 demo's with the drum machine .  After we had our first drummer we released six album and 2 splits with other bands :

En route vers demain (cd 2002)

Ne renoncera pas (cd 2005)

Quoi qu'il advienne (cd 2009)

À travers le temps (cd 2012)

Split Moonstomp & La Gachette (cd ,Lp 2014 & 2021)

Dans ta face (cd,Lp 2015)

Split France vs Quebec (Lp 2016)

20 ans d'insoumission (cd,Lp 2018)

Dans les tranchées (Lp , tape 2022)

RTC) Do you go to stadium ? if yes which team you support

LGT) Sometimes i go see CF Montreal playing at the stadium. Is in the MLS league, few players from Europe are coming to play in that league as well.

RTC) I know that you have played in Italy some years ago. What do you think about the Italian scene ?

LGT) We don't know a lot about the Italian scene . We did one show in Italy in 2011. We were touring with a girl's band called The Horny Bitches at that time . We played in Cremona in front of 15 people, we lost all our money on that day so we never came back . Back then , I was doing some cd trades with Christian of Anfibio Records so it was great to meet him . Maybe we will be back one day but it would be in other circumstances.

RTC) So the interview is over say something to ?

LGT) Long life to your webzine right to choose, ( RTC.. Thank you my friend) thanks for giving us the opportunity to speaking with you !!! Nice regards Erik

Cheers & Beers
