Arrivano da Amburgo e alcuni di loro supportano anche il St. Pauli e ci raccontano di loro e della loro attitudine. Sono gli Angry Voices e andiamo a sentire quello che David e Schweiger ci hanno detto nel particolare...

RTC) How and when was the band born? Tell us the history of your band.

D: We formed in 2019, which was unfortunately just before the corona pandemic started and so our very first gig in march 2020 with Fatal Blow couldn’t happen. We had a few changes in our lineup and in 2021 Mary joined. Since then we have been recording songs, our first LP has now finally arrived and we are getting more and more exciting inquiries for various gigs.

S: Our band members are: Schweiger – vocals, David – guitar and vocals, Mary – bass and Bex – drums.

D: We were all fed up by the modern Oi! sounds so we wanted to play Oi! music in the traditional old school style. At first we played various cover songs to get into it and then kicked off with writing own songs

RTC) How can we call your style of playing? Which are your musical influences?

D: We play classic Oi! music. Ordinary music for ordinary people. We are influenced by bands like Blitz, The Business, Last Resort, 4 Skins, Cockney Rejects and many more, just to mention a few.

S: I would say we are strongly influenced by the early 80is Oi! and punk music which you can find on the “Carry on Oi” samplers.

RTC) What are your lyrics about? What do you stand for?

D: Our songs are about out daily lives: work, class, struggles, love, friendship and generally about the skinhead way of life.

S: We don’t have typical political songs but I think it’s important to say that we are strictly antifascist and antiracist.

RTC) What's your favourite beer or alcoholic drink?

D: We love beer! Usually, we drink Pilsener in the North, Helles has become very popular here too but of course there are many more tasty beer styles from all around the world if you think of stout or IPA... Wherever we go, we are curious of exploring local beer from local breweries

S: I couldn’t say it better.

RTC) Speak about the Oi! and punk scene in your area and country

D: Actually, our scene has been shrinking and there’s hardly young kids following but it’s still alive and kicking. There are more and more bands that play an old school sound away from modern mainstream pop Oi! without rough edges.

S: I think many German bands tried to sound really professional in the last years. They made a smooth radio compliant sound and more and more people in the scene have been getting sick of it and crave for a rough old school sound.

RTC) Can you mention the most important gigs you did?

D: We have played lots of different gigs and met many decent people. Of course it has been a pleasure to share the stage with Oi! legends like The Oppressed or Klasse Kriminale but as well, we will always remember the sold out clubshow in Jena with Brechraitz and OXO 86.

S: I would like to mention also our second gig. It was at the 25 anniversary of our football crew, the Sankt Pauli Skinheads. It was a big festival over two days and we shared the stage with bands like The Prowlers, The Hacklers, Rude Pride and Lumpen. Playing that festival was a big honour to us.

RTC) Do you suggest other bands in your country ?

D: There are a lot of new bands that follow the same idea like we do: old school Oi! music rather than modern Oi!, for example Violent Times and Collaps. Apart from that we share our rehearsal room with the Red Bricks and we say: “Cheers to Brechraitz!”

S: I also like to mention our friends from Pillhuhn Polka and the incredible Spartanics. Their old school bass sound is really amazing.

RTC) How much works (CD,LP Etc.) have you released ?

D: We have just released our first album. It’s like a diary, since we have collected our recordings for quite a bit. That’s why we decided to call it “The Early Days Until Now”. We worked together with Knockout Records from Prague

S: Hopefully, our next release won’t  take too long...We have made plans already.

RTC) Do you go to the stadium? If yes, which team do you support?

D: Yes, all of us follow FC St. Pauli Hamburg, except Bex, who is more into ice hockey.

S: We go regularly to home games at Millerntor stadium and follow also our team to away games sometimes.

D: What we criticise in one of our songs is the modern football and all the negative influences it has brought.

RTC) Would you like to play in Italy? do you know italian Oi! and punk scene?

D: We would love to play in Italy, I don’t know too much about the scene though...

S: I’ve played a little tour of three gigs with my old band “Fast Shit” in Italy back then in 2018. We played in Torino, Savona and Milano and we had a hell of a good time. I really would like to play in Italy again.

RTC) So, the interview is Over, say something to ?

S: Hope to see you soon at one of our gigs, maybe in Italy!

D: Mille GraZie for your interest and for the interview Keep the faith and carry on!

Angry Voice YT

Cheers & Beers
